It was the big day for the distribution of computers to high school students at Emile Betavin High School, Friday, September 20, 2024. In total, 210 students took possession of the precious equipment during the morning.
Starting at 9:30 a.m., one class after another, students from the Emile-Bétavin High School received a laptop (loRdi) equipped with a set of software, a charger and a red bag stamped with the logo of the Occitanie region. The funder in this area is for students in the 212 public high schools called “digital high schools” in the region. Thus, the 210 students benefiting from the Mendois Foundation took possession of their computers, with digital assistance in case of need or malfunction.
Discovery for some students
For George, 16, a sophomore, this is helpful: “It's a little bit more for me because I can take this to high school.” Same for Lucas, 15: “The one at home was broken. I'll just use it for my schoolwork.”
Benjamin Chikhi, a professor of French, history and geography, sees the device as an educational asset: “It wasn't easy at the beginning of the process but today it's a real tool. We use it during classes. And then, it saves a lot of paper. All the technical documentation and institutional websites, for example, are consulted in digital form.” To add: “This is a revelation for some people, who until now only had their mobile phones as a computer.”
Students from Chaptal High School in Mendi were also provided.
