According to Verivox’s assessment, 13 credit institutions require up to 0.55 to 1 percent negative interest from their private customers. In addition, at least 135 financial institutions impose penal interest on a total balance of 50,000 euros or less. In some banks, the custody fee is due from a credit balance of €5,000. The end of the negative interest rate trend does not appear to be in sight.
