Now YouTubers’ discovery of “Nintendo Prime” has heated up the rumor mill. When you disassemble the base of the new Nintendo Switch OLED, it faces an HDMI 2.0 interface.

Just a full-precision tuning or the basis for more?

HDMI 2.0 allows playback of 4K content at a frame rate of 60 Hz. With the Nintendo Switch OLED, this will only be possible by upscaling – the built-in “Nvidia Tegra X1” chip is too weak for that. However, incorporating an HDMI 2.0 port isn’t entirely meaningless. Because it supports HDR (High Dynamic Range), which means colors and contrasts look more vibrant even with the Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) OLED Hybrid Controller. However, the interface could also signal an imminent 4K release of the Switch, as Nintendo was already going to lay the groundwork for it with a compatible dock.
