Two inexpensive 5G models, which one to choose?

With the shock of smartphones, Univers Freebox brings you a comparison of smartphones sold at equivalent prices via Free Mobile Store. This is to help you choose according to your expectations. Today we are against Realme 8 5G and Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 5G, offered at 219 and 229 euros respectively. Also note that they are available for cash or via the new Free Flex offer.

Screen: tied

Regarding the display, the two smartphones advertise the same advantages, with an IPS panel, 6.5 inches diagonal, Full HD + resolution, a refresh rate of up to 90 Hz and a punch for the front camera. So they ignore AMOLED with its saturated colors and deeper blacks.

Our ranking:

  1. Realme 8 5G (IPS, 6.5 inch, FHD +, 90 Hz and off-center punch)
  2. Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 5G (IPS, 6.5 inch, FHD +, 90 Hz, center hole)

Offers: real me

Once again, the two smartphones play in the same ballpark. It is equipped with the same MediaTek Dimensity 700 platform, which is synonymous with a processor up to 2.2 GHz and 5G network compatibility. However, Realme 8 5G does offer a small surplus of RAM which is never denied in a small configuration.

Our ranking:

  1. Realme 8 5G (2.2 GHz Octa-core MediaTek Dimensity 700 chipset, 6 GB RAM)
  2. Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 5G (2.2 GHz octa-core processor, D-700 chipset, 4 GB of RAM)

If the two smartphones opt for the same image configuration on the back, a 48MP main sensor and two additional 2MP sensors for macro mode and portrait mode, then Realme 8 5G offers more for the selfie part.

Our ranking:

  1. Realme 8 5G (48/2/2 MP rear, 16 MP front)
  2. Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 5G (48/2/2 MP back, 8 MP front)

Autonomy: equally

On the battery and load side, we have the same 5000mAh capacity for the battery and the same 18W for the load.

Our ranking:

  1. Realme 8 5G (5000mAh battery, 18W load capacity)
  2. Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 5G (5000 mAh battery, 18W charging)

Universe Freebox selection:

In general, the two smartphones are very close. However, some details are skewed in favor of the Realme 8 5G. In addition to being €10 cheaper, it offers MicroSD extension with a dedicated slot (hybrid Nano-SIM / MicroSD reverse slot) and more definition for selfies (16 MP vs 8). We also have a small surplus of RAM that cannot be refused.
