Montauban. Green School Pupils Experience with “The Serious Game”

At the Racecourse Green School, CM1-CM2 students worked on punctuation thanks to an interactive game called Serious Game.

The CM1 – CM2 students from Maxime Combes, the school’s teacher and head coach at The Green School, had the task of testing a “serious game” on punctuation.

This ‘serious game’ was developed by interns in the MA Audiovisual Engineering, Interactive Digital Media and Games (AMINJ) implemented by the Institut National Universitaire Champollion in Albi, led by its Director Michel Gallop and in collaboration with Veronique Paolache, Lecturer in Linguistics and Trainer at INSPÉ de Montauban .

As part of a collaborative research on the links between language study and written production in Episode 3, this experiment, led by Véronique Paolacci and mobilized by eight Tarn-et-Garonne teachers, including part Maxime combs, takes place.

Installed in front of their computers, students conscientiously test this educational digital game by placing punctuation marks on sentences and texts under the watchful eye of the master trainees. Once the serious game is over, the kids have filled out a satisfaction questionnaire, and its results will help improve this serious game.

“This digital tool is at the service of learning and should be used in addition to what is done in the classroom with lessons and exercises …,” Maxime Combes explains. The animated game interface makes the exercises more engaging and allows the student to be active, to learn by doing, by doing.”

If this type of educational game develops motivation and commitment among students, it also reinforces and adds teacher to learning by mistake. In fact, until he finds the solution, the learner can err as many times as necessary, without any consequences.
