The Pico 4 Ultra wants to compete with Meta's headphones

Virtual reality is not dead, quite the opposite, it is increasingly looking towards mixed uses that are likely to attract the largest number of people.

The successor to the impressive Pico 4 (which we tested when it was released), this Ultra model has only one goal: to make Meta Quest 3 From his base. Does he have the shoulders? Anyway, he has the arguments.

Modern formation

Its design is light and fairly compact, and it doesn’t change much. On the other hand, Pico (a subsidiary of ByteDance, owner of TikTok) has largely reworked the internal clock. The centerpiece? The Snapdragon, which is not only more powerful, but also opens up the possibility of compatibility with the WiFi 7 standard.

The speaker is equipped with the same screens as the Pico 4, which are two LCD panels with a resolution of 2160 x 2160 pixels at a frequency of 90 Hz.

Focusing on both VR and MR, the Ultra model sports two 32MP image sensors on the front, delivering much better quality photos using the mode. Crossing (Which lets you see the world through your headset.) This duo also allows you to capture 3D videos at 2048 x 1536 pixels and 60 frames per second. Kind of like space videos. iPhone And see Apple Pro.

Finally, the 21.9 Wh battery will guarantee good autonomy, but it is the promises of fast charging that impress: unlike the Pico 4 and Meta Quest 3, we go from 20 W to 45 W. The brand promises a full charge in less than an hour.

Content distribution made easy

But, as always in VR, it’s the software ecosystem that makes the difference. And Meta is hard to beat on this terrain. The brand’s operating system is backed by nearly a decade of experience and doesn’t lack any functionality. The same can’t be said of Pico OS which, while well-stocked over the years, is far from complete.

However, we appreciate the efforts of the Chinese company, which takes inspiration from Apple and its direct competitor, to allow multiple displays to be displayed in the field of view of its headset and to be rearranged as desired to provide a generous and comfortable workspace.

The Pico 4 Ultra will also allow you to stream content from a PC, Mac, or smartphone into these same virtual windows, all without any connectivity.

At the moment, the Pico 4 VR has been announced in China, where it will be offered for 4,300 yuan (~540 euros). Its release in France has not yet been officially announced.
