BEIJING, Aug. 24 (Xinhua) — Chinese hit video game “Black Myth: Wukong” has taken the gaming world by storm, selling more than 10 million copies across all platforms just three days after its release, its developer, Game Science, announced Friday evening.

“Black Myth: Wukong,” the first major Chinese-developed game, topped the list of most-played games on Steam, a major video game platform, just an hour after its release on Tuesday morning.

Game Science has revealed that the game's maximum concurrent players across all platforms have surpassed three million.

“Black Legend: Wukong” is inspired by the classic Chinese novel “Journey to the West.” The novel tells the adventures of a monk and his three disciples, focusing on Sun Wukong, the legendary Monkey King known for his supernatural powers and mischievous nature.

Although most players are from China, the game's popularity is quickly spreading around the world. Some enthusiastic fans have compiled more than 200 pages of reference materials to help international players understand the story's deep cultural roots.

The game, which celebrated its rich cultural heritage and modern aesthetic, became a sensation beyond the gaming community. Its unprecedented success boosted the stock prices of some companies and boosted tourism in Shanxi Province, one of the main locations where the game takes place.

With the game's first weekend of release approaching, experts expect sales to continue to grow.
