The fire completely destroyed eight huts and damaged another seven. The fire also spread to the nearby forest and burned 500 square meters of vegetation. Thankfully, the firefighters quickly contained the blaze. A helicopter flew overhead to make sure the stoves were turned off. The level of alertness for forest fires is currently “seriously compromised” in Gironde.
Finally, there was no one at the camp site on Thursday, so there were no unfortunate casualties.
An investigation has been opened
On Friday morning, an officer from the judicial police and the technical and scientific police reached the results. The origin of the accident is not specified at this time and an investigation has been opened.
Pyla Camping has been owned since 2013 by two partners, footballer Girondin Mathieu Valbuena and former Pau rugby player Stéphane Carella.
