A mobile dental unit that provides care for the disabled

“We started from an observation in 2016. We compiled a file to provide care to underserved populations, to people with disabilities in hospitals. Then we thought of the people outside. We decided to start with the help of the ARS (Regional Health Agency, editor’s note) or without it. We continued discussion with Mobidents to improve our selection of equipment.”

As in military missions

“The project was accepted by ARS in December 2019. But Covid caused a lot of delays.”

The equipment used is consistent with that used in humanitarian or military missions. It is transported in a large facility, led by Sophie Akimov.

“The principle is to bring in institutional and nursing home-type health equipment to provide care similar to that provided in a private medical environment or hospitals.”

The Mobile Dental Unit (UMD) will be spread throughout the Orne department, like Mobidents in Calvados, at a rate of one structure per month.

To date, the team has conducted 140 actions and consultations on interventions in May, June and July 2021 in three institutions.
