The Plastic Odyssey Travel Village stops in Bordeaux on October 2 and 3 to raise awareness about reducing plastic waste and recycling
Before she leaves on her world tour, Village Plastic Odyssey Stop by at the Darwin Ecosystem in Bordeaux on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 October. In the programme: exhibitions but also awareness-raising, presentation of local initiatives, discussions … “The goal is to get away from the simple exhibition and really interact with the people who come to see us,” explains Daniel Auerbacher, coordinator of the Plastics Odyssey association that works against plastic pollution at sea.
For him, “the idea is to shed light on what is already there and understand what is a vector of change.” In the village no new plastics were used. Everything is recycled: from the vinyl guest book to the table made from plastic waste.
The last step
Since August 29, the Village Tour has made a stop in several cities and Bordeaux was the last stop before the world tour. For three years, about twenty people will set out on the “Plastic Odyssey” to sail the seas and oceans by turning plastic waste into fuel thanks to a recycling center installed on board.
During this round-the-world trip, thirty stops are planned, “particularly in the countries of the South where waste management is the least advanced,” explains the association’s coordinator. At each stop, the boat will be able to accommodate companies that want to combat plastic pollution at sea. Currently in Dunkirk, “This ship is the banner of the plastic cause,” sums up Daniel Auerbacher.
The Plastic Odyssey team will be on site through the weekend, between 11am and 6pm. There are many local players in the village, as is the association 4p beach and seaPlastic Road Initiative. On site, the works of Vanessa Balci, made from plastic waste collected on the beaches, can be seen. It is also suggested to visit the ship in virtual reality.
