Scientists have transformed the 3D structure of a spider’s web into music. For this, they worked with musician Tomás Saraceno and created an interactive musical instrument called “Spider’s Canvas”.
The scientists’ goal was to better understand the sensory environment of spiders ScienceAlert Relayed by slate. These animals do not see well and are aware of their environment thanks to their bodies covered with hairs and crevices. Thus, the spider feels everything that happens on its web, and analyzes the vibrations of the threads, each of which emits a different frequency.

This is the unique phenomenon that the researchers wanted to translate into music. They created a 3D version of a spider’s web Cyrtophora citriculaAttached is a rectangular box. Then they assigned a different sound frequency to each strand of fabric, turning the entire work into pitch.
The researchers also released a video showing the gradual construction of the network. Thus the notes change and become more complex when the spider weaves its trap. They added a virtual reality experience, which makes it possible to perceive the vibrations recorded by the monster. It is enough to become a spider man or woman for a while.
