Here’s how to check for app updates on Android. Where to check for updates is the same as downloading apps and games: Google Play Store.

How to update Android apps manually

  • Open the Play Store on your Android phone or tablet and tap on your profile icon in the upper right corner.
  • Select “Manage applications and games” from the menu that appears.
  • On the next screen, we recommend that you search for “Available updates” or “All updated apps”. If you see this last warning, you can stop here.
  • If the message “Updates available” instead, click “Update all” to install all updates immediately or select “View details” to review the updates first.
  • Selecting View Details will take you to the Updates tab. From here, you can select the Update button next to a single app or tap Update All to update everything at once.

Completed! Updates will start downloading and installing. You will be able to see the progress indicated by the circles around the app icons.

How to update Android apps automatically

If you don’t want to check regularly for app and game updates, you can allow apps to update automatically in the Play Store.

  • Open Play Store and tap on your profile icon.
  • Select “Settings” from the popup menu.
  • Expand the “General” section and select “Application auto-update”.
  • Make sure “On any network” or “Wi-Fi only” is checked, then click Done.

Each app will now be able to update itself automatically in the background. If there is a specific app or game that you do not want to update automatically, go to the list of apps in the Play Store and tap on the three-dot menu icon in the upper right corner, then uncheck the “Enable Auto Update” option.

That’s it! Make sure to regularly check the app update status on your Android device so that everything is safe and working properly.
