As part of the police modernization, J&K is set to get the latest gadgets

As part of police modernization and to maintain heightened vigilance, Jammu and Kashmir is ready to give a big boost to police stations, major cities and highways with the latest gadgets including HD cameras.

The sources said DH Bulletproof vehicles equipped with CCTV, state-of-the-art weapons, body cameras and installation of high-definition cameras with automated facial recognition technology (FRT) will be equipped by J&K Police by 2026 as part of the center’s approved police modernization project.

Jammu and Kashmir has more than 330 police stations and police stations. Sources said that modern equipment will be purchased to give more transparency to the system and ensure security.

There are already 300 cameras installed in Srinagar. However, the police are now planning to increase their need for facial recognition technology. Countries like Telangana and Delhi are already using facial recognition systems for identity control and authentication.

A senior police officer said the main objective of the projects was to ensure adequate control, improve the quality of police and keep the militants in trouble. “FRT technology can help anticipate and prevent attacks because it can track the movements of suspects. It will also help in the search and tracking of terrorists.”

“Police stations in the area are already covered with CCTV connectivity. He said that all major cities in the Union Territory, as well as highways, will in the coming years see the installation of CCTV as part of the police modernization programme, adding that the program will remain in place until 2025-2026.

The officer said J&K will also have “state of the art” forensic facilities by 2025-2026. J&K Police have their own FSL in Srinagar which has improved over the years but still is not helpful in detecting suspects.
