Audi and NürnbergMesse have started construction work on the first “Audi charging hub”. The partners are building a fast charging station in the northern part of the Nuremberg Exhibition Center, which will serve as the blueprint for Audi’s premium fast charging network. The project includes six bookable “high energy” charging points as well as a directly connected lounge area.
“The success factor and backbone of the change in the direction of electric mobility is the charging infrastructure. With the Audi Charging Hub, we want to not only offer a solution to future peak demands, but also make charging a premium experience,” says Audi Charging Hub Project Manager Ralph Hollmig. “Our lounge area creates an opportunity to continue in line with premium standards, providing space and ambiance for a value-added vacation. At the same time, the flexible, high-performance HPC freight complex with bookable poles keeps orders low only on the local power grid and uses storage Temporarily sustainable with second life batteries.”
With the pilot site in Nuremberg, Audi wants to test the fast-charging network concept introduced in May for the first time in practice. The building will offer an attractive ambiance of approximately 400 square meters, six charging points for electric vehicles and a lounge at the top of the building. “NürnbergMesse customers will also benefit from additional electric fast charging stations with a charging capacity of up to 300 kW, where they can use the Audi range in addition to the 12 existing electric charging stations,” explained Peter Ottmann, President of NürnbergMesse.
Flexible container cubes, which meet various technical requirements, in addition to charging stations, also include lithium-ion batteries used as energy storage, and serve as the basis for the Audi charging center. With an intermediate storage device of about 2.45 MWh, the charging points only need a standard high-voltage 400-volt connection. Rooftop PV modules provide additional green energy.
According to the developers, the technological concept of the Audi Charging Hub makes it easier to locate possible locations, reduces planning time and saves costs and resources. The modular system also allows for a high degree of flexibility and scalability. The axle can be transported, installed and adapted to the respective requirements on site in a short time.
