BOURGOGNE-FRANCHE-COMTÉ: the region chooses virtual reality to complement its mentoring tools for youth

“The ambition of the region is above all” to revolutionize “the orientation”, explained Oussin Charette Godard, Vice President of the Regional Council of Bourgogne-Franche-Contet, this Thursday, January 6, by presenting the tools available to young people.

Press release from the Bourgogne-Franch-Comte Regional Council on January 6, 2022:

On Thursday, January 6, District Vice President in charge of Secondary Schools, Training, Learning and Orientation, Ossin Sharett Godard, benefited from a visit to Parc des Chaumes High School Davalon (Yon), introducing virtual reality headsets intended for spotting trades.

Funded under the Regional Investment Acceleration Scheme, it complements the tools provided to students to guide them and comes to diversify methods by drawing on new technologies.

A few weeks before the opening of the Parcoursup platform (January 20), the elected regional representative pointed out the wealth of information that young people, families and educators can access to learn about careers and the training that leads to it.

“The ambition of the region is above all to bring about a ‘revolution’ in mentoring, particularly by using more modern and effective tools, for the benefit of teachers as well as young people and their families. We must continue to work together until everyone finds their place,” said Osin Sharett Godard.

Virtual reality headsets for 360 functions

Second graders of the “Customer Relations Professions” were able to test the virtual reality headsets that the region acquired as part of the regional investment acceleration plan (€600,000). More than 550 helmets are currently in circulation at colleges, high schools, and information and counseling centers that order them.

Designed for use in partnership with academic authorities, these headphones are powered by virtual environments designed by Métiers 360 that present the professions with a “360 degree” immersion for a sensitive and enjoyable experience of professional environments. Thus forty environments are presented. Films specially shot in local businesses will complement this show from 2022 and will enhance region-specific skills among youth (examples: crafts, industrial, agricultural, etc.). Immersed in the heart of a company, association or public service, the spectator meets three to four professionals who work in the same place. They present the tools of their work and tasks and tell how to live their profession.

This new tool is being trialled by 74 voluntary organizations in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté:
– 50 colleges
– 2 EREA (Modified Regional Educational Institutions)
– 19 high schools
– 3 Information Managers (Information Centers and Guidance)

More than 8,100 students are affected between September 2021 and April 2022.
