ANCHORAGE, Alaska – A New York state woman and her son have been charged with robbery for contributing to the disappearance of the laptop of Nancy Pelosi, the speaker of the US House of Representatives, during the uprising at the Capitol, Jan. .
The US Federal Police initially raided a home in Anchorage, Alaska, more than 7,200 kilometers away, in search of the device.
Court documents showed that the FBI on Friday arrested 55-year-old Marian Mooney Rondon and her 23-year-old son, Rafael Rondon, of Watertown, New York, in connection with the theft. Both are also the subject of other charges in connection with the riots.
Rafael Rondon is accused in particular of having been in possession of a severed rifle.
They appeared in federal court in Syracuse, New York, on Friday. They were released pending further proceedings.
The Capitol uprising has been extensively documented by those who participated in it. Law enforcement has used the photos posted online to identify suspects.
The information passed to the FBI led the police to the mother and son.
Ms. Mooney Rondon has reportedly admitted to being on Capitol Hill and in Pelosi’s office on the day of the uprising. Gloves or a scarf were reportedly provided to the individual who stole the laptop so as not to leave fingerprints on the device.
His son reportedly admitted to helping this person put the computer in his bag, “maybe that was stupid of me,” he said.
Ms. Mooney Rondon and her son have reportedly admitted that they were the individuals seen in photographs taken during the mutiny and then distributed by the FBI.
These are the photos that apparently sent the US Federal Police to Alaska, and to the work and home of a woman who closely resembles Ms. Mooney Rondon.
The FBI now admits that there appears to be something wrong with the person.
