Mobile Communications – In Switzerland, there are about 3,000 objections currently pending against the new 5G antennas for mobile communications. According to environmental epidemiologist Martin Rosley, the problem is not the radiation from antennas, but from mobile phones.
Rosley said in an interview with “Walzer Putten” that a mobile phone shines 100 to 1,000 times stronger on the body than a mobile phone antenna. A cell phone that has almost no reception radiates up to a million times more than a cell phone that has good reception.
For cell phone antennas, the cut-off values have been set in Switzerland 50 times lower than there may be demonstrable harm to health. In addition, installation limit values are applied only in Switzerland and are set ten times lower.
When asked if boundary values should be increased, Rosley said that was a political decision. Because of the large margins of safety in mobile communication, one can safely discuss it. But more specific value controls are also necessary.
It is also important to the world that the polluter pays principle also applies to mobile communications. Cell phone operators caused radiation, so they should help solve the problem, not just taxpayers.
Rosley heads the Environment and Health Unit at the Swiss Institute of Tropical and Public Health. He has been investigating the effects of mobile phone radiation for about 20 years and is a member of the International Committee on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection. This committee is involved in setting the limit values for mobile phones and antennas.
