Computer battery in passenger's backpack catches fire: Plane evacuated just before takeoff

The network reported that passengers were boarding American Airlines Flight 2045 to Miami at around 1:05 p.m. when the crew reported a fire in the cabin. ABC7.

Several passengers reported seeing smoke in the back of the plane. In fact, it was the laptop battery that caught fire in its owner’s backpack. This led to a stampede, with some people panicking as flight attendants took over evacuation procedures. The laptop was submerged in a tub of water!

During boarding of American Airlines flight 2045 from San Francisco (SFO) to Miami (MIA), smoke was reported inside a customer's bag. The bag was quickly removed by our crew and all customers exited the aircraft. We thank our crew for their professionalism and apologize to our customers for the inconvenience caused.” American Airlines said.
