The World Health Organization (WHO) highlighted on Thursday, July 11, that the coronavirus continues to kill around 1,700 people a week worldwide. The UN agency called on vulnerable populations to continue getting vaccinated against the disease. Its director-general, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, warned of a significant decline in vaccination coverage.
Despite these deaths.. “Data show that vaccination coverage has declined among healthcare workers and people over 60, two of the most at-risk groups.”“We are very sorry,” Mr. Ghebreyesus lamented during a press conference in Geneva.
“WHO recommends that people in high-risk groups receive a COVID-19 vaccine within 12 months of their last dose.”He remembers.
More than seven million deaths since the end of 2019
More than seven million deaths have been reported to the World Health Organization, although the true toll of the pandemic appears to be much higher. The virus that causes COVID-19 was first detected in the Chinese city of Wuhan in late 2019.
The World Health Organization urged governments to continue monitoring and sequencing the virus and ensure access to reliable and affordable tests, treatments and vaccines.
