Don't Wait Any Longer for Crash 5, the Game Has Been Canceled, According to a Former Toys for Bob Employee | Xbox

The news around Toys for Bob has been particularly rich in recent months. After being bought by Microsoft in October 2023 as part of the acquisition of Activision Blizzard King, the studio to which we owe the Crash and Spyro franchises has finally chosen to go independent, while remaining on good terms with the Redmond company. While the company is currently working on Spyro 4, today we learned that Crash 5 has been cancelled.

Crash 5 was in development, but was cancelled.

Nicholas Colley, formerly senior concept artist and character designer at Toys for Bob, shared some behind-the-scenes revelations at the company. In fact, while talking about the cancellation of Project Dragon, a game that was previously developed by another studio and not Spyro 4, he took the opportunity to drop a few words about Crash 5.

He confirmed without going into details that a new project has indeed been cancelled. This is obviously sad news for fans of the series, as the license includes a sequel called Crash Bandicoot 4: It's About Time in 2020.

We don't know when Crash 5 was cancelled, but we can imagine it happened because the final episode sold “only” 5 million copies, which is a small number compared to Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy which found over 20 million buyers!

Also note that in 2023, the studio proposed to discover Crash Team Rumble, a multiplayer game that clearly departs from the studio's DNA and that could very well have been imposed by Activision.

Regardless, Toys for Bob is now independent and can now “go back to [ses] Roots, a small and nimble studio. Xbox will also publish the company's next game, which will be Spyro 4, according to the latest rumors.
