(Pocket-lint) – EA has announced a partnership with Middle-earth Enterprises to develop the new free-to-play Lord of the Rings mobile game.
The Lord of the Rings: Heroes of Middle-earth will be a collectible RPG that offers a “social and competitive experience”. Developed by Capital Games, the studio behind Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes, it is a similar role-playing game on iOS and Android.
“We are very excited to partner with Middle-earth Enterprises for the next generation of mobile role-playing games,” said Malachi Boyle, EA Vice President of Mobile Role Playing Games.
“The team is full of Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit fans and every day they combine their immense passion and talents to deliver a true experience to the players.”
Not much has been revealed about the game yet, though Boyle revealed that it will feature characters from all of JRR Tokien’s books: “The combination of HD graphics, cinematic animation and stylized art immerses players in a Middle-earth fantasy where they will battle their favorite characters.”
Limited beta testing will begin this summer in an as yet unannounced area. There are no details on the full launch schedule yet.
The other game in Capital, Galaxy of Heroes, is now available onApple App Store and on google apps.
