Education in the Metaverse: Are Virtual Reality Classes the Future of Education?

Animated metaverse projects around play, socialization, work, and creativity have already emerged, so it is no surprise that educators are beginning to explore ways to integrate education into a shared virtual world.

Optima Classical Academy, an independent school in Florida in the US, has embraced the new technology and announced plans to create a virtual school that will welcome students without tuition fees starting in August 2022.

The school will provide up to 1,300 students with Oculus headphones so they can participate in virtual classes.

Students will be allowed to choose their own course of study and select projects and tasks scheduled as live VR sessions, which can take them from ancient Rome or the Oval Office of the White House to give a talk. Story or let them get up close and personal with planets in astronomy.

A typical school day will be divided into four hours of live lessons in the Metaverse classroom and another four hours of independent study and extra lessons.
