“If you have the wrong speed limit in the digital system, it may slow you down to the wrong speed or allow you to accelerate to the wrong speed,” he added.
“SMMT and its members look forward to contributing to the advice of the UK government on how these measures will be implemented in this country,” said Mike Howes, chief executive of the Association of Motor Manufacturers and Traders.
A Department for Transport spokesperson said: “The UK’s exit from the European Union provides us with a platform to take advantage of our regulatory freedoms. We are currently reviewing vehicle safety provisions included in the EU’s General Safety Regulation and will implement UK-specific requirements and improve road safety.
