“It’s double good news as businesses of all sizes benefit from this new federal tax credit for new computers in Budget 2024 – OPEC is encouraging these companies to partner with us to donate, recycle and rebrand their used equipment to enable economically disadvantaged Canadians to engage, learn and stay connected in their classrooms and with their families,” says Michel Langelier, OPEC’s Executive Director.

OPEC says the donated equipment is given to charities to refurbish, allowing people who struggle to access essential skills, services and opportunities to participate in the digital economy.

“In addition, companies can take advantage of environmental, social and governance credits and actively and responsibly participate in reducing e-waste that would otherwise be directed to landfills,” the organization said in a press release.

Since 1993, OPE+ has coordinated the federal government's Schools Computers Plus (OPE+) program and has provided, at low or no cost, more than 2.2 million computers across Canada and saved more than 12,000 tonnes of e-waste.
