For the mayors of Valesbjerg, the work of the new regional mobile brigade “is a real service to the citizens.”

In commitment from the State, the Mobile Territorial Brigade of the National Gendarmerie was created in Vallisberge in the Eastern Pyrenees in the summer of 2024. Who are the men and women who make up this brigade and what added value do they bring to this vast region?

“The simple fact of seeing a blue police car drive by on the street calms some minds.”The mayor of Montferrier, Jean-Marie Gorgues, testifies in front of the town hall where the library room also serves as a permanent office for the soldiers of the Vallisbert Regional Mobile Brigade. This presence makes “very happy” Mayor of Arles-sur-Tech, David Planas, and Claude Ferrier, Mayor of Prats-de-Mollo and President of the Community of Municipalities of Haut Vallespir “In everyday relationships, improve security and reinforcement.”

Since July 1, the four gendarmes of the Vallisberge Regional Mobile Brigade have been in constant contact with citizens, elected officials and traders.

In Arles-sur-Tech the four gendarmes of this unit (which will number six in a few months) are based in Céret where they live, and from Prats-de-Mollo everything is controlled to provide them with as many resources as possible, especially in the field of communications. They are led by the unit commander, Warrant Officer 1st Class Gunther Kreutzer and his deputy, Warrant Officer Ludivin Morin, who are keen to “Return to contact with citizens, elected officials and businesses to obtain information, build a relationship of trust and assist isolated areas.” These gendarmes, who responded to the call for volunteers, are active day and night, available 365 days a year, in the field, in their offices in Arles-sur-Tec (planned for expansion), and may come by specially equipped vehicle and in offices provided by the municipalities in the region.

As in Montferrier, where this Tuesday, August 13, 2024, the gendarmes Annie and Nicolas are present to collect any information or complaints from the population. “We reach communities where there may be mobility problems and where we must promote proximity to public services. There is a permanent presence of La Poste, so why not the Gendarmerie?”“This is how land is reoccupied,” Police Officer Annie testifies. “It is a real service provided to citizens.”The mayor of Corsavi, Antoine Chrysostome, adds. And the chief justice knows what he is talking about when he says this: “At the end of July, vehicles were damaged, vandalism was denounced, and garbage bins were burned in front of the camp site in Leer. If it were not for the presence of the Regional Mobile Brigade, citizens would have had to go to Siret to file a complaint.” Over 20 kilometers away, over half an hour drive… winding! But the intervention of the gendarmerie was strong and the reactionThe camp director confirms. We hope that it will discourage some in the future. Because our fear is that because of this we will have fewer holidaymakers while we live here on tourism. Korsavi is very quiet, peaceful and enjoyable.” The investigation into the above-mentioned incidents is still ongoing. The “fixed” Siret Brigade and the regional mobile Valesper Brigade are working on this side by side.
