How to join a FaceTime call without iPhone

You are no longer required to have an Apple device to participate in a FaceTime call. Apple’s video conferencing service can now be accessed from any smartphone or computer. Here is how to use it.

Apple is slowly opening up its ecosystem. Since the release of iOS 15 and the new version of macOS, it’s possible to participate in a FaceTime call even if you don’t have an iPhone or Mac. A small revolution in the video service that until now was reserved for owners of Apple devices.

Be careful, however, it is necessary to have an Apple device to start a FaceTime call. It will be possible to add to a call if you do not have an iPhone, but not to create one. Otherwise everything happens in a simple web browser window. We explain to you.

To share a Facetime call with people who do not have Apple devices, you must therefore initiate a call from your Mac, iPhone, or iPad. Nothing too complicated.

From an Apple device:

  • Run the app confrontation time
  • Click on Create a link
  • Share the link Via the app of your choice or by copying the URL
  • You can also name your own discussion group.
  • Click on the newly created call
  • Click on to join again at the top of the screen

On the Android or Windows device you want to join the call from.

  • Open the link Shared with you with Google Chrome or Microsoft Edge (Not compatible with Firefox)
  • Enter your name
  • Click on to complete
  • Adjust your settings (microphone and camera on or off)

Once the person who started the call accepts you, you can video chat from your phone or computer. To end the call, just press Leaves at the top of the connection window.

If you join a Facetime call from the web, whether from a smartphone or computer, you won’t be able to share your screen. You can simply set the basic controls (turn the video and microphone on or off) and share the link with other diners.
