JVMag – Test – Arizona Sunshine VR Remake, the good version is back

Arizona Sunshine VR returns “from the dead” with the aim of bringing us back to a post-apocalyptic world. Where the world is overrun by zombies. As a quick reminder of the facts, the game actually saw the light of day in 2016. This new version has been completely rebuilt based on the sequel and is intended for all VR platforms.

Exploiting the license or a real profitable return? This is my opinion after several hours of playing in complete immersion.

Very classic, a little funny, but still fun

Small but important piece of information This overhaul integrates the entire game content. This means the base adventure and its additional content. Allow a total of about ten hours to do everything in a straight line. A little more if you, like me, like wasting time playing with physics.

In Arizona Sunshine VR Remake, you play as a lonely old survivor traversing a barren desert inhabited by the undead. As you can imagine, The screenplay does not shine with its originalityBut this is not what we ask of him. From the first minutes, the atmosphere is set: the hot sun, the roaming zombies, the first shots and, above all, the fun associated with physics.

The chapters follow one another with their share of surprises, especially the themes. Like most virtual reality experiences, Everything here is scripted and highly narrated.

Immersion and emotion, the heart of the game

If the narrative is as classic as possible and everything comes together in a very telephonic way, The game excels in its gameplay. actually, Virtual reality gives meaning to production. Unfortunately, as in most cases, this is difficult to explain in writing. Here every encounter with zombies becomes a moment of palpable tension. Manually reloading weapons adds a significant layer of stress, especially when surrounded. In this regard, note that getting started takes some time. Some movements lack liquidity. I'll let you imagine some panic movements.

I ran this test on PlayStation VR2. After playing the seminal opus of the time HTC Vive, the first of the name, I realized how far VR has leapt forward. Everything is prettier and smoother, and the PSVR2's adaptive triggers give a real shooting feel. I really had the impression that I had to shoot with real weapons, things that I didn't experience in Sniper Elite VR for example, which I tried Meta Quest (local).

For all tastes

Arizona Sunshine VR Remake, just like its big brother, has different game modes, solo and now co-op! Unfortunately, I didn't have the opportunity to test this feature during the two weeks of testing.

So it's possible to do the adventure for two people, under different difficulties, but my little guilty pleasure doesn't lie in the writing part. personally, I prefer to spend my time in “Horde” mode where it's all about surviving against waves of zombies. Stress, reflexes, speed, anticipation, here all senses are tested and there is endless replay potential.

True auditory immersion

In addition to graphics and gameplay, immersion also comes through sound. Arizona Sunshine VR Remake takes full advantage of the 360-degree perspective. Zombie grunts, flying bullets, the sound of falling shell casings, everything is put in place to enhance immersion. However, I regret the lack of a real soundtrack that can bring out the atmosphere at certain moments. All of this is a very nice addition to Horde mode, The sound gives a lot of information about the arrival of enemies.

In its own juice

It doesn't revolutionize anything, but it does Premium version. If you own a VR headset and are looking for a new and slightly different adventure with a touch of humour, you've come to the right place. If you've already played the base demo, I'd still recommend going back to basics, the work done to bring it up to date is excellent. The second title's engine offers a lot of potential with a truly realistic physics engine, although again it's a step belowHalf Life Alex.

I would like to point that out This game was released almost 10 years ago. At a time when virtual reality was almost unknown and choices had to be made in development. Through this comprehensive overhaul, we realize how “creative” and complete the game is.
