The Lot Police is overwhelmed with complaints of fraud of all kinds on the Internet. This affected a Gordon resident who saw his computer blocked and thought he was paying Microsoft €238 to fix it.
About ten days ago, a resident of Gordon opened his computer for an online consultation as usual. But this time, he finds himself with a frozen screen and an error message from Microsoft, at least that’s what he thinks because cheating is a good thing. “Your computer has been blocked, please call this number to solve the problem,” which the seventy-year-old is quick to do. “They opened my computer and asked me to pay €95 plus €24 of the subscription every month to prevent the problem from continuing.” But the scam doesn’t end that fast, the thugs know how to persuade because they ask if there is another computer in the house and they assure that it must also be damaged. They invite their victim to download software so that they can take control of the computer and “fix” it. In the end, they charge two interventions at €95 and two subscriptions at €24, which Gourdonnais does.
The gendarmerie does the ban
“Then I checked the phone number on the government website that lists scams and realized I had been scammed. Thankfully, the state provides a list of IT professionals by department that “cleans” computers. It took all the spyware from me and added one that stops them. I paid 190 euros but I’m calm.” Dark Gordon told him they had already received five similar complaints.
