According to the current status of the investigation, the 20-year-old suspect of Algerian nationality stole a high-quality mobile phone from a 23-year-old victim in Götsauer Strasse at around 9:45 pm. He previously engaged his victim in conversation and said goodbye with a handshake. He may have managed to get the cell phone out of the victim’s pocket.
Just about 15 minutes later, the suspect took a 21-year-old’s smartphone from her pocket in the Kronenstrasse district, police said. After the young woman noticed the theft, the robbed defendant returned her. When a passing police patrol learned of the situation by witnesses, the suspect fled toward the mansion’s front yard. Before that, he disposed of another smartphone, also allegedly linked to a theft crime.
Around 10:20 p.m., witnesses to the previous incident recognized and confronted the accused in the front yard of the mansion. When he tried to attack the four young men with an annoying spray device, a physical altercation occurred. Police said the four witnesses beat and kicked the suspected pickpocket.
Since the alleged pickpocket also sustained a deep stab wound and severe bleeding in his leg, it cannot at present be ruled out that the knife was also used in the dispute. Police officers supplied the wound with emergency equipment, and the 20-year-old was taken to hospital for further treatment. Suspected of multiple robberies, police officers accompanied him while he was receiving further medical care, as he was said to have insulted a number of police officers.
The suspected pickpocket appeared before a judge on Monday at the request of the Karlsruhe public prosecutor. He issued an arrest warrant, as the 20-year-old was taken to a correctional facility. A preliminary investigation was launched against the four young men on suspicion of serious bodily harm.
