By the end of 2027, 5G subscriptions are expected to reach 4.4 billion worldwide, according to the latest Ericsson Mobility Report, which is celebrating its 10th anniversary. Service providers continue to adopt 5G and more than 180 of them have launched commercial 5G services around the world.

Higher demand than expected
According to Ericsson, this development is due to stronger than expected demand in China and North America, in particular due to lower prices for 5G devices. Currently, Northeast Asia has the highest penetration rate for 5G subscriptions, followed by North America, Gulf countries, and Western Europe.
In 2027, North America is expected to have the highest 5G penetration rate of 90%. 5G adoption is expected to be faster than 4G adoption after its launch in 2009. 5G is expected to reach 1 billion subscriptions more than two years before 4G.
