Ryzen 7 5800X3D outperforms Ryzen 7 5800X by 9% in multi-core on Geekbench 5

With its low frequencies, it does not stand out in one’s heart.

Presented at CES 2022, Ryzen 7 5800X3D will be marketed On April 20th, RRP $449. In January, AMD announced that this chip was on average 15% superior to the Ryzen 9 5900X in gaming (1080p). The reason for this progress: 96MB L3 cache, including 64MB added thanks to 3D V-Cache technology. Two entries in the Geekbench 5 benchmark provide a preliminary, objective overview of the performance of this new variant of Ryzen.

In line with Ryzen 7, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D has 8 cores / 16 threads; It drives the Zen 3 CPU architecture. However, for reasons recently explained by Robert Hallock, The Ryzen 7 5800X3D has fewer hours than the Ryzen 7 5800X. The latter has a base frequency of 3.8 GHz and a boost frequency of 4.7 GHz. The Ryzen 7 5800X3D beats it at 3.4GHz and 4.5GHz, respectively, with no overclocking capability. Both Ryzen 7s have a TDP of 105W.

For both Geekbench inputs, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D sits on an ASRock X570 Taichi motherboard and works with 32GB of DDR4. At best, you get 1,637 points in single core and 11,250 points in multi core.

The table below collects average scores for some processors. In this particular benchmark, the Ryzen 7 5800X3D is logically behind in single core compared to the Ryzen 7 5800X due to its lower frequencies. However, it scores 8.9% better multi-core than the Ryzen 7 5800X. Ryzen 9 5900X (12 cores/24-pin, TDP of 105W) and Core i7-12700K (12 cores/20-pin, PBP 125W) stay ahead; But above all the gap with the Ryzen 7 5800X is relevant here.
