If you have read our Galaxy A52 5G review, this new model should not surprise you. In fact, the A72 strongly resembles its little brother. In fact, the only difference comes from the panel size, which rises to 6.7 inches from previously 6.5 inches. It is also an especially well finished smartphone.
The weight naturally goes from 189g to 203g. Its imposing dimensions (165 x 77.4 x 8.4 mm) do not make it suitable for the smallest scorpions. If this is your case, the power and volume controls may appear to be elevated. In short, it is a smartphone that will mainly be used by two hands. The fingerprint sensor at the bottom of the screen is particularly responsive.
Always inspired by high-end models, it features a hard-hued plastic case. Image island is less blurred than on Galaxy S21, But that doesn’t hurt the design, quite the opposite. We appreciate its IP67 certification which enables it to be submerged for 30 minutes at a depth of 1 meter. So it might unintentionally slide into your bathtub without much damage. This station also benefits from a good repair score of 8.2 / 10.
In terms of connectivity, the Galaxy A72 could host two nanoSIMs or a microSD card to expand storage space up to an additional 256GB. We see that the micro-jack port is still located on the lower edge, to the right of the USB-C port.
My voice
The Galaxy A72 has a good idea to provide us with a micro-jack port, which is unfortunately rare. The final version is very good. If the stereo reproduction is not abnormal (-50.7 dB), the dynamic range is noticeable (-111.5 dB) and distortion is specially controlled (0.0011%). The output power is up to 107MHz, which should be more than enough for regular headphones, and this type of smartphone is not intended for headphones anyway.
The stereo speakers don’t shine particularly well, as the sound is a bit muffled. Placing the hands in the horizontal position also tends to prevent them from sticking out. As you can see, the A72 is not entirely suitable for those who want to listen to their music in public. It is less annoying for video or broadcast.
Values | Average | |
---|---|---|
Output level | 107 mV | 116.3MHz |
Distortion + noise | 0.0011% | 0.081% |
Dynamic range | 111.5 dB | 91 dB |
Crosstalk | -50.7 dB | -54.7 dBm |
Samsung often demonstrates the know-how when it comes to the displays of its smartphones. This is the case again here thanks to the 6.7-inch 20: 9 Super Amoled panel, which displays at a resolution of 1080 x 2400 pixels (394 ppi). Unlike the A52 5G version, it has a maximum refresh rate of 90Hz. Not adaptable, it can also be set to 60Hz. We take advantage of beautiful brightness with a maximum peak of 869 cd / m2, and a moderate reflection of 49.3%. Auld is bound, the contradiction is infinite. So we’re better off than if we were on the LCD panel of a Mi 10 T.For example.
With the 7093K by default, out-of-the-box colorimetry isn’t optimal. Same goes for Delta E at 4.9. So we strongly advise you to choose the natural profile in the display settings for better enjoyment of the whole. Consequently, we are down to 6739 K and Delta E 1.9, which is much closer to video benchmarks in the West. Once this is done, the user benefits from a bright and smooth screen, even if shades of green can be subject to some color drift (see color schematic diagram). The tactile delay (87 ms) will not be felt. Good article, in a nutshell.
The Galaxy A72 does not charge this chip A52 5G, But that is from the A52. Equipped with a Snapdragon 720G SoC and 6 to 8 GB of RAM, it’s nothing to be shy about. The latter provides quite decent performance in multitasking and allows to maintain nice fluidity even though many of the tabs are open. Hence, our test protocol gives it an overall score of 87.
The situation is similar at stake. At an average of 48 fps, it performs better than Pixel 4a 5G (40 fps), worse than Mi 10T phone, But in addition to A52 4G ! During use, you won’t face any problems running greedy apps in good conditions. This is not a smartphone for Players Strictly speaking, but it has the right things to provide a relaxing experience.
Our performance tests are conducted using the viSer app developed by SmartViser.
We take the same and start over! Almost okay. The Galaxy A72 already has the same wide angle (64 MP, f / 1.8) and ultra wide angle (12 MP, f / 2.2) as the A52 and A52 5G. In this aspect, the two smartphones disappointed us somewhat, especially against the still formidable Pixel 4A 5G in the exercise.
It also takes advantage of the same good front image sensor (32MP, f / 2.2) and can shoot in 4K at 30fps. Also, we refer you to our test of the Galaxy A52 5G to enjoy more details about its main unit, ultra-wide angle and front module.
However, the Galaxy A72 distinguishes itself from its peers by adding an 8 MP (f / 2.4) telephoto lens. Most of the time, this type of unit has a hard time convincing. This form does not create any surprises.
Telephoto Module: 8 MP, f / 2.4, x3 zoom
In the daytime, the x3 optical zoom provides a readable image, although it is very smooth. It’s still lacking in detail, but it’s still usable. At night, the situation is much more difficult. We can definitely distinguish the shapes, but the details disappear and give way to a wide range of pixels when we get too close.
This unit, which is supposed to differentiate the A72 from the rest of the range, therefore does not provide enough to improve the overall rating in the images.
If there’s one (important) aspect where the Galaxy A72 can’t be taken from the back, it’s the autonomy. Our protocol took 24 hours to settle, which is a great result. In fact, this smartphone can last for two or even three days if your use is not extensive. Just Xiaomi Mi 10T He managed to do a better job. So he is a true marathon runner.
Equipped with a 25W super fast charger, it still takes 1 hour 25 minutes to recharge its battery to 100%. So it’s not one of the fastest workouts, but you should have time to see it coming. Unfortunately, the Samsung A72 does not support wireless charging.
Our battery tests are automatically performed by viSer, an app developed by SmartViser.
The results obtained with viSer come from measurements taken under real conditions of use (calls, SMS, videos, playback applications, web browsing, etc.).
