Google is bringing its innovative artificial intelligence to a wider audience with the launch of its new Pixel 8a smartphone. The phone comes with many of the creative AI features found in the more expensive Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 series devices, including photo and video editing capabilities.
Here are the confirmed prices for the products in Canada: $679 CAD for the 128GB version and $759 CAD for the 256GB version.
Google says the 6.1-inch Pixel 8a will have access to the company's AI-generated Gemini chatbot, as well as AI-generated features like best take and Research circleThe company also says that users will eventually be able to access Gemini Nano, a smaller version of the larger Gemini language model that runs directly on the Pixel 8a, in a future update.
Gemini Nano, Offline
The standard version of Gemini requires an internet connection in order to process your requests on Google's cloud servers, while Gemini Nano runs directly on your device, allowing it to perform some generative AI tasks without accessing the web.
The Pixel 8a features Google's latest Tensor G3 chip, 128GB of storage with an option to upgrade to 256GB, and a new 120Hz display for smoother gaming and scrolling. There's also a 64MP wide-angle camera with Super Res Zoom that mimics a telephoto lens and a 13MP ultrawide camera.
Four interesting jobs
Google has already rolled out a number of AI productivity features from the Pixel 8a to the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro in October. The AI offering that stands out is Magic Editorwhich allows you to remove unwanted people and objects from photos or move them around your photo by simply circling them. You can edit the photo by deleting a passerby who appeared in the photo.
Research circle It's an equally cool feature that lets you circle an object in a photo and instantly search for it online via Google Search. The idea is to make it easier to find and buy products you've seen in the photo online. You can also highlight text in the photo to quickly search for it on Google.
finally, best take Designed for group photos. When you take a photo, best take It takes a series of photos of each person's face. If someone blinks in the photo, you can use it. best take To replace that person's face with one of the photos in which they did not blink. best take It only changes the person's face, not their body.
There is also Magic Voice Eraserwhich helps you remove background noise in your videos and better isolate the sound from the main subject.
With this, Google wants to turn generative AI offerings into core functions that will, Google hopes, boost sales of its devices.
