Sending a laptop from France to Japan?

Good morning all!

After years of replacing faulty parts on my French laptop, he kindly told me it was time to say goodbye.

For practical reasons, even though I’ve lived in Japan for several years, have mastered Japanese and don’t plan to return to France anytime soon even for a short time, I don’t want to buy a Japanese computer under any circumstances. So no need to try to change my mind on this point 😉

Similar questions I could find on this site were about tariffs for shipping a laptop from France to Japan. Before that, I would just like to know if it is possible to do this or not.

I have received parcels very rarely, so I am not aware of what offers are available. In principle, I plan to go with the Colissimo Prêt-à-Send Monde with an XL box that can hold up to 7 kg (as long as I do that, I’d like to take the opportunity to get 2-3 more things at the same time) according to the Colissimo website According to the consultants I contacted on the phone, there is no problem with sending a laptop. Same goes for the post office clerk in Japan who told me it was fine as long as the battery was not disconnected from the computer.

If I find out too much, it’s because a few years ago I tried to send a hard drive to my home in Japan from France, a hard drive that was finally returned to the sender. Was it because it was one ingredient…? I also have a Taiwanese colleague who told me he had the same experience with a computer that was sent from Taiwan to Japan that went back to the sender.

So I am looking for people who can confirm whether or not they can send and receive their laptop without worry. I’m not in a hurry, as long as it happens someday that’s fine, so if it’s a plane issue, I’m willing to consider the boat.

Thank you in advance to those who can enlighten me!
