Seniors in Wunsiedel: The daily lives of elderly people are getting smarter – Fichtelgebirge

Quick line to the doctor

And nursing homes in the area are also increasingly opting for a virtual call to a doctor in order to quickly clarify questions. “If, for example, a nurse finds a rash in a resident, he can take a picture of it and send the picture to the doctor. This gives an initial diagnosis and, if necessary, also interrogates the resident via video chat,” Fisher explains. This saves time and long trips.

This is exactly what drives Heike Syma. We are still well equipped with GPs in the Wunsiedel area. It doesn’t look good with the professionals. Oftentimes, seniors who are not mobile have to figure out how to reach the experts in the larger city. Here contacting the doctor and patient via smartphone or computer is very useful and makes life easier. ”

The coronavirus pandemic has literally fueled telemedicine in recent months. When patients were in quarantine and not allowed to leave the house, video chat was an ideal option.

However, and this is the crux of the matter in the digital world, the system must be completely safe from misuse. “We have developed software that meets all data protection requirements. The KVB has certified them,” says Fisher. The KVB green light also makes it easier for doctors to bill the hours of a consultation. So far, this has only been possible with great effort.

As much as telemedicine is, sometimes it’s a matter of bringing home three rolls, bread, and a carton of water. In addition, perhaps shampoo, shower gel, or medication prescribed by your doctor. This is where the Upper Franconian delivery service model project comes into play in Wunsie-del. For Heike Syma, this is the important piece of the puzzle missing so far.

Analog shopping service for a long time

“We are in the multigenerational home shopping for our elderly citizens for a long time and then take them home on the citizens bus. But so far, this has worked quite similarly. Seniors call us and give us their shopping list,” says Heike Syma.

However, it is much better if seniors can pass on their wishes to the multigenerational home team at any time of the day or night. This makes planning and organizing a lot easier. Heike Syma is now hoping the show, which begins in the fall, will be well received. “We want to enable older citizens to have a good life in Wunsiedel.”

Next Monday, the Wunsiedler multigenerational home is offering seniors a course in telemedicine. This is Wunsiedler’s contribution to the National Action Day “Federal Multi-Generation House Program. With Each Other – To Each Other”.

Wunsiedel strongly chose Upper Franconia as a model municipality for the service of digital shopping, among other things due to the many offers already available to the elderly.
