SEOUL, June 14 (Yonhap) — SK Telecom, South Korea’s leading telecom operator, said Monday that it has invested in a virtual content production company as part of its strategy to promote virtual reality (RV) and metaverse services.
The mobile operator said it has signed an agreement to acquire a stake in Seoul-based ViveStudios and VR movie producer “Volt.” He added that he will introduce 3D imaging techniques into his virtual reality service. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
SK Telecom said it expects the investments and partnership to enhance its virtual services.
The mobile operator is currently operating the Jump platform that allows users to interact with others in a virtual world, or metaverse, using digital avatars.
SK Telecom said it will combine real-time 3D imaging technology and visual effects technology to create a more realistic experience in virtual space.
The mobile operator has recently stepped up its efforts in metaverse technologies.
