After the Discord topic and the potential acquisition by Microsoft have exploded like a soap bubble, rival Sony is now around the corner and announced a new collaboration with popular communications platform Discord on Monday evening, May 3, 2021.
For PlayStation users, the partnership between Sony and Discord should be felt starting next year, they say. Accordingly, at the beginning of 2022, the “social experience” that Discord enables is to begin integrating it on PlayStation.
Jim Ryan, President and CEO of Sony, points out that PlayStation is constantly looking for new ways to enable players around the world to connect, make friends, and enjoy fun community experiences as well as share lasting memories.
Sony participates in Discord
Discord is now used by more than 140 million people every month. The teams involved are already working together to integrate the social aspect of Discord with the gaming experience on the PlayStation Network. In addition to the console, the shared experience of Discord and PlayStation capabilities should be combined together on a mobile phone in order to facilitate connection. Whether it’s playing games, having fun, or just spending time together.
In the context of the collaboration revealed today, Sony Interactive Entertainment acquired a minority stake in Discord. Ryan himself has been inspired by the idea of bringing friends and communities together in new ways since the first conversation with Discord founders Jason Citron and Stan Vishnevsky.
The possibilities for players to form communities and enjoy game experiences together are the heart of the entire collaboration.
