Sony reveals the design of its new virtual reality headset

PlayStation’s futuristic virtual reality headset is all about comfort, with a design reminiscent of the PlayStation 5.

Sony Reveal this Tuesday, February 22 The next generation virtual reality headset, PlayStation VR2, in the blog from the brand. This new model is inspired by the design of the PlayStation 5, the latest console to be marketed by the Japanese giant.

The PS VR2 has a more spherical design than its predecessor, which “symbolizes the 360-degree vision” players enjoy while immersed. Unsurprisingly, it runs the main lines of the PlayStation 5 and its accessories.

“Just like the thousands of mini PlayStation icons we’ve added to the design of the PS5 controller and DualSense controller, these PlayStation icons adorn the front and back of the PS VR2 headset for gamers to enjoy,” it explains. Playstation press release.

Both consoles use these same visual icons, and will be “intuitive, incredibly immersive,” as the brand promised in its press release.

The comfort offered

The helmet has two OLED screens, compatible with 4K technology and HDR. Many of the previous helmet’s features were taken over for this new model, such as the earphone hole or adjustable visor.

However it is lighter than its predecessor, and has a new ventilation system. Two novelties aimed at reducing the feeling of motion sickness, characteristic of immersion in virtual reality. Air circulation also helps prevent fog formation.

Although an official release date has not yet been set, this new helmet is supposed to appear by the end of the year. As a reminder, PlayStation VR – the first of its kind – was marketed for €400, in October 2016.
