The competitive landscape of real-life strategy giant “StarCraft 2” has been in the hands of tournament organizer ESL for the past two years – Blizzard Entertainment has lost interest in creating its own show. Therefore, the group transferred the management of the esports scene to the organizer from Germany and provided only sponsorship funds.
This deal, which was originally scheduled to run for three years, will expire in early 2023. So veteran eSport fans are concerned – will 2022 be the last year that “StarCraft 2” will offer major tournaments and prize money?
ESL announces StarCraft 2 roadmap for 2022
On January 7, 2022, ESL announced details of this potential final season, which includes more than €1 million in prize money. ESL wants to work more closely than ever with outside organizers and integrate their events into the official circuit – with the goal of the competitive game’s long-term future.
