The fishermen of Cotes d’Armor imagine a biodiversity escape game – Saint-Brieuc

How do you talk to young people about the biodiversity that surrounds them and its challenges and threats? this question Cotes d’Armor Fishermen’s Union She decided to respond to this by imagining an escape game, an indoor team puzzle game, on her premises in Plerin.

This escape game, called Bio’Scape and intended for middle school students, should open its doors in September. “The goal was to talk about this normal biodiversity that we find on our lands and to respond to the disconnection of some young people from their environment,” explains Ronan Bingham, Project Manager.

Virtual Reality

We talk a lot about endangered species on the other side of the planet, but we should also think about those at our feet.

Within an hour and a quarter, each group, made up of five or six players, must solve puzzles in four rooms, each associated with a season and an ecosystem: the forest in the summer, the coast in the fall, the bushes in the winter. and wetlands in spring. “Each space has its own sound and light atmosphere and includes two dioramas of about a dozen stuffed animals from the Federation collection,” explains Ronan Pengam.

Finally, Room Five, the final area of the game, includes VR headsets to transport players to the Maison de la Terre environment in Lantic.

“a tool of general culture”

“The escape game allows us to address themes of animals and plants, the adaptation of species to different seasons, climate change and the impact of man, positive or negative, on his environment.” The device is designed to be immersive and free to, as Ronan Bingham asserts, “evangelize in hunting.”

The work is complete, and now it’s time to fix the final details of Bio’Scape. “We did the first test with middle school students in Saint-Pierre, in Plérin, and we will continue,” notes the project manager, who hopes to impress various National Education actors with an interest in the device. “It’s really a generic culture tool. We talk a lot about endangered species on the other side of the planet, but we also have to think about the species that are here, at our feet.”
