The black face of the PS5 DualSense controller appears to be removable, suggesting that players may modify it for custom designs in the future. Video by John Glascock On YouTube, DualSense has a relatively easy-to-use “no tools needed” coating with a low black coating that covers the thumb. Glasgow is shown removing the plates by plucking the sides and using some force, although he may have previously used a thinner tool to loosen the plate. It is not clear whether removing the tray will void any warranty on the controller, so we do not currently recommend trying this yourself.
This suggests that the controller’s first – degree fixes or third – party solutions (Sony’s approval) allow players to customize their dual sense. However, whether third-party plates can be sold is currently in the air – only this week, we saw the creation of custom plates for the PS5 console by a third-party sales outlet, the company apologized and canceled all orders after being pressured by Sony.
