We’ve heard about spring cleaning, and Microsoft is preparing for fall cleaning. The change of season is fast approaching and the American giant indicates that Windows 11 versions 21H2 and 22H2 will no longer receive security updates. If you regularly update your PC, you won’t have to do anything except check that your computer is running the latest available version. On the other hand, devices that are not updated will not be covered against threats in a few weeks.
“On October 8, 2024, Windows 11, version 21H2 (Enterprise, Education, and IoT Enterprise editions) and Windows 11, version 22H2 (Home and Professional editions) will reach end of servicing. The next October 2024 security update, which will be released on October 8, 2024, will be the last update available for these editions. After this date, devices running these editions will no longer receive monthly security and preview updates that contain protections against the latest security threats. Explains Microsoft in its Windows Message Center.

For its part, Microsoft recalls that To help you stay protected and productive, Windows Update automatically turns on a feature update for Windows 11 Home and Pro devices that aren't managed by your IT department when they reach the end of maintenance. This release from the American giant comes at a time when the current version, called 23H2, has been deployed since the end of October 2023. The update has recently seen an enhancement in its deployment, with Microsoft preferring to choose availability by wave. Microsoft supports version 23H2 until November 11, 2025.
…while waiting for Windows 11 24H2
Microsoft will be rolling out a new update to Windows 11 this fall called 24H2. This version will be codenamed “Hudson Valley” while the already available versions are codenamed Sun Valley (21H2), Sun Valley 2 (22H2), and Sun Valley 3 (23H2). A new shift for the Redmond company as rumors point to the arrival of Windows 12. One thing is for sure, there will be a lot of AI in the new Windows.
