Being in the video game writing business, we spend a lot of time transferring screenshots from our devices to our phones or computers – perhaps more than most. Some of us have created nifty capture cards that instantly record to our hard drive, but the rest of us rely on Nintendo’s screenshot transfer solution to either transfer the micro SD card on your PC, or scan the QR code on your Switch using your smartphone And save each screenshot to your camera roll individually.
That’s fine – it works – but the process could be a lot smoother, and that’s where SwitchBuddy comes in. Developed by Filip Němeček, this mobile application has been around for a while now and aims to make transportation less painful by essentially simplifying tedious tasks. “Save to Camera Roll” bit.
You’ll still have to select the photos you want on the Switch and “send to smart device” (feel free to refer to our guide if you need more information on this), but while Nintendo’s option requires you to tap and hold on each individual photo to save it to your device, SwitchBuddy has an interface that does the same thing with the push of a button. On iOS, it also has the option to save screenshots directly to iCloud Drive if you don’t want the Camera Roll clogged.
SwitchBuddy also allows you to Tweet or forward selected photos through different apps to any recipient you want without downloading them yourself, if you prefer. Take a look at our own tests where we uploaded these impressive picks from Blasphemous and Metroid Dread:

Does this change the game? Well, no. It’s not much of a difference – that means you have to have another (free) app on your phone – but it’s true that it’s much smoother than Nintendo’s proprietary solution and will save you time and money. Like us, you’re transferring a lot of footage from the Switch to the digital world as a whole. It also comes with a few stylish color themes to choose from.
Improve speed and usability? folder selection? Colorful themes? It looks like Nintendo could learn a thing or two. The app is free to download/use and available on the App Store, Google Play or the SwitchBuddy website.
Let us know below if you are already using this app, or if you can check it out in the future.
