Top 10 Nintendo Switch Games: Top 10 Games of 2021

The Nintendo Switch is over four years old and still great games are released for it every year. Sure, Nintendo’s first-party title production slowed during the pandemic and Breath of the Wild 2 remains a distant dream, but even without the new Zelda and Mario games, 2021 is a great year for Switch owners. This is partly due to re-releases of old games with these heroes.

Check out the list here for ten of the best Switch games of 2021. If you’re looking for a quality game for the holidays or early 2022, this is a great pick.

Almost like a brand new game, actually.

Super Mario 3D World und Bowser Fury

Super Mario 3D World was a very good Wii U game, but with a few tweaks to the gameplay and a whole new game mode, the Switch is now a great game. The slow pace of “Super Mario 3D World” is a little faster and with “Bowser’s Fury” a huge expansion has been added, where Mario transforms into a giant cat to battle his older enemies.

Monster Hunter Rise

“Monster Hunter Rise” is excellent. The previous game in the series, Monster Hunter World, managed to simplify complex systems that have evolved over time, and Rise continues to build on that. The Japanese aesthetic enlivens the atmosphere of “Monster Hunter”, new areas and monsters that will easily delight die-hard fans for over 100 hours.

Metroid dread

Metroid Dread, the first fully 2D “Metroid” game in over a decade, is a true return to form. Samus is once again cleaning up the caves of an alien world in search of upgrades and monsters to fight. This is easily one of the best games of 2021 – not to mention the Switch games – and makes it a clear recommendation for your library.

Pokemon: shining diamonds and shining pearls

Pokemon is back – again. “Pokémon: Radiant Diamond” and “Shining Pearl” are a complete 3D remake of the fourth generation of the DS Pokémon games. This was the first generation that the online game was introduced to audiences all over the world. Although not revolutionary today, there are still a lot of innovative things this generation loves that can’t be found anywhere else. Chibi-Art style is the perfect replacement for the old, chunky orcs from the originals, and gives the new versions a charm not found in other Pokémon games.

Shin Megami Tensei V

“Shin Megami Tensei” is the quirky ancestor of “Persona” and has an oppressive atmosphere that fits his bleak perspective. These games are famous for being challenging and dark. So, if you’re not a JRPG fan, consider switching the game to an easy difficulty level. But that doesn’t mean you should rule it out – it’s a deep RPG experience with a story that won’t let you go. Simply a must for fans of JRPG on Switch. If that’s not your thing, check out our list of the best Western RPGs.

new pokemon snap

“Pokémon Snap” next to “Hey You Pikachu” was one of the more bizarre Pokémon offshoots from the N64 era – but unlike other curiosities, it’s always been hailed as a classic. The task of shooting Pokemon to get a high score is simple and attractive, which makes you constantly come back to outdo yourself. “New Pokémon Snap” has loads of pocket monsters, four picture levels each, several secret paths, and even more levels added via free updates since its release, making it one of the best Pokémon franchises you’ll find on Switch can play.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons – Happy Home Paradise

“Animal Crossing: New Horizons” was released in 2020, but a year and a half later a major expansion was released: “Happy Home Paradise”. If you have a Nintendo Switch Online subscription, you have free access to this DLC pack, otherwise you can buy it. It adds loads of furniture, clothing, customization options, new game modes, and more. If Animal Crossing took a lot of your time last year but you haven’t looked at it much since then, this is the perfect excuse to come back – or start the series for the first time.

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword HD

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword has always been hampered by imprecise motion controls, and Skyward Sword HD is doing its best to change that. Whether you’re playing with motion controls or the new button controls, Skyward Sword HD is a huge improvement over the original game and looks a lot better at 60fps. It could be the worst game in the franchise in history due to the non-standard controls, but this enhancer corrects many old flaws.

NEO: The world ends with you

“NEO: The World Ends With You” is the long-awaited sequel to the classic Nintendo DS game “The World Ends With You” featuring an all-new team and the sequel to a 14-year storyline. This RPG features a unique combat system – unlike anything else on the Switch – and makes up for the wait in style.
