Varois-et-Chaignot. Introductory workshops for seniors on IT tools

Discover, learn or improve the tools of the computer and the digital world, this is the goal of the digital public space (EPN) created in September 2019, at the Varois-et-Chaignot Library.

Introductory workshops on digital tools, lasting 1 hour and 15 minutes, are organized on Tuesdays and Thursdays in small groups of two to five people, with priority given to seniors.

Whatever your level, the goal is to acquire the basic concepts of using a computer, tablet or smartphone. It is about making people independent at home and no longer have to fear digital gadgets. Moreover, tablet learning is easier for people who have not used Never a computer mouse,” notes moderator Florence Bailey.

Thematic workshop every three weeks

There is, on Thursday mornings, by appointment only, a computer troubleshooting hour dedicated to small everyday problems: “This watch can help you figure out how to update your phone, sort pictures to put in your computer, download documents on the mutual insurance website…”, Florence Bailey explains.

To complete your knowledge, discover new applications, games and software, a thematic workshop is held every Tuesday, every three weeks from 2:00 pm to 3:30 pm. Registration for the workshops is free and is only by reservation in the library.

Gerard and Colette Amand attend the workshop every Tuesday, accompanied by computers and a smartphone. Today, it is about understanding the use of cookies and avoiding the dangers of online shopping.

They have been attending classes for over a year. “I came here to improve my home computer skills, to learn how to scan a document or retrieve my statement because the bank no longer sends papers,” Gerard Amand identifies.

The public digital space can be accessed free of charge during library hours. “It is open to everyone to use the equipment (PC, tablets, WIFI). Everyone can have their own secure space with a unique password and ID, provided they are a member of the library,” concludes Florence Bailey.
