Two weeks before the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games, we are immersed in the preparation of athletes, who are taking advantage of the latest innovations. Athletics, boxing, cycling… more and more people are using virtual reality to prepare for the Games.

Alone on the INSEP ring, Bilal Ben Neama, boxer for the French national teamin the middle of the fight. In front of him is a very realistic digital opponent and spectators. The virtual reality exercise is carried out in real life conditions. “Mentally, it allows me to prepare for combat and manage stress.”He explains.

At ringside, his coach advises him to go live. For the French Boxing Federation, virtual reality is not just a tool. The goal is to personalize the athletes’ training, without the risk of taking a bad hit. “This allows us to reduce the number of injuries that could potentially occur after such an intense session.”“We are delighted to be working with the Federation to ensure that we continue to deliver on our promise,” comments Chloe Lessin, the Federation’s Director of Performance.

The programme was launched four years ago by academics. More than one million euros have already been invested. Athletics has also taken the lead.
