VisionOS 2 brings Vision Pro to a more useful PC

JAKARTA – When Apple first introduced the Vision Pro, it emphasized that the device was a “space computer” and not just a virtual reality headset. The initial demo showed that the Vision Pro does many things like a computer, and a press release said that “Vision Pro enables users to be more productive.”

However, in everyday use, it turns out that the Vision Pro is not yet the best platform for getting work done. With VisionOS 2, two new features are expected to make the Vision Pro a truly useful computer.

One of the best ways to get productive with Vision Pro is through Mac Virtual View. This feature allows Vision Pro to act as a display for your Mac. In VisionOS 2, Mac Virtual View gets two major improvements:

Ultrawide Mode: VisionOS 2 makes your Mac’s virtual display window much larger with the new Ultrawide Mode. This mode provides the same screen space as two side-by-side 4K displays, but in a large virtual display right at your periphery.

High Display Resolution: Many users feel that the display resolution on their Mac is not high enough. In VisionOS 2, Apple is increasing the display resolution, making it a better alternative to a monitor for more users.

This is an interesting addition, but unfortunately the tool won't be available until the end of this year, possibly in the VisionOS 2.1 update in October or 2.2 in December.

Better support for cloning and mouse

The Vision Pro has a great controller-less user interface that can be navigated with eye and hand movements. However, for computing tasks, the keyboard and mouse/track combination remain irreplaceable.

This is the dongle that is always visible: Previously, the connected Bluetooth dongle was hidden when it came to an immersive environment in Vision Pro. Now, in VisionOS 2, even if you are using VR applications or immersive environments, the physical keyboard will remain visible. This allows you to type comfortably anywhere.

Mouse Support: When Vision Pro first launched, it did not support Politics Mouse and other Bluetooth mice, although it did support the Magic Edition promo. In VisionOS 2, Bluetooth mouse support has been added, so you can use your favorite mouse for easier navigation.

The Vision Pro is still in the early stages of development. Although Apple is positioning it as a space computer, only time will tell if that’s the best value for money. The Vision Pro has great potential for immersive video entertainment.

With the VisionOS 2 update, Apple is working to make Vision Pro a truly reliable computer for users, and this improvement shows a significant step towards that vision.
