Before we dive into the meat of the matter, a quick reminder: As tradition dictates, we expect Apple's keynote to take place on Tuesday, Maybe September 10thOn this date, Tim Cook and his team should lift the veil on the new iPhone 16. Change in the air for the picture

Let's start with the big part: the cameras. Apple seems to have decided to go all out this year, especially when it comes to its pro models. The big change? The x5 telephoto lens, which will replace the current x3. It's enough to (finally) get closer to the Android competition, which has already been offering the x10 for a while.

Sensor-wise, we'll keep the 48MP main lens of the Pro models, but the ultra-wide angle will also increase to 48MP. A nice move that should be felt in the quality of the shots, especially in low light. The icing on the cake is that we're also talking about the possibility of capturing 48MP ProRaw images with this ultra-wide angle.

For the non-Pro models (iPhone 16 and 16 Plus), there is no major revolution on the horizon on the side of the main sensor. We will keep the 48MP resolution, but with a slight improvement in the ultra-wide angle aperture (f/2.2 instead of f/2.4). It is not enough to break the three legs of a duck, but it is still worth it. The real novelty? Macro photography will appear on these models. A nice feature, but it arrives a little late compared to the competition.

Mysterious “Capture” Button

The big new thing that's got people talking is the arrival of the “Capture” button. A capacitive button that lets you control the camera more easily. Zoom in/out, choose a filter, lock focus… all with a simple gesture.

What's interesting is that, contrary to initial rumors, this button will be present on all models in the iPhone 16 lineup, reminiscent of what Sony Xperia has been doing for several years.

The button will be located on the bottom right of the device, ideally positioned for your index finger when you hold the phone horizontally. Clever! And to avoid unwanted stimuli in your pocket, it will be capacitive. In other words, it will only react to contact with your skin.

This button will also be pressure-sensitive, much like 3D Touch back in the day. A half-press can lock exposure and focus, before a full press can take the shot. What's more, it will act as a mini trackpad, letting you zoom in or change filters with a simple swipe of your finger.

We can't miss it: Artificial Intelligence will be at the heart of this new iPhone. With a processor boosted by AI stimulants, Apple intends to catch up with Google's Pixels. It remains to be seen what this will do in practice: a simple marketing effect or a real revolution in use?

As for the video, we are talking about3K recording at 120fps, all Dolby Vision compatibleIt's enough to create super slow motion videos, but is it really useful for everyone? You have.

JPEG-XL for compression

Perhaps most interesting is the arrival of a new image format: Jpeg-XLPromise of better quality and better compression. This new format will be added to existing formats such as HEIF, classic JPEG and of course ProRaw.

A bit of information that might go unnoticed: On non-Pro models, the image sensors will now be aligned vertically, not diagonally. An aesthetic detail? Not only that. This could improve video capture in landscape mode. To be confirmed!
