The Pokémon Go phenomenon continues.
It's not just Pokémon GO, the augmented reality mobile game released in early summer 2016, that will contradict us. In fact, the latter gathered no less than 232 million active users during its year of release. The competitive scene should also help its popularity, especially with the recent broadcast of the 2024 Pokémon World Championships.
Experienced studios in the project
To develop the Pokémon Pocket Trading Card Game (we will keep the abbreviation Pokémon Pocket JCC or Pokémon TGC Pocket in the English version), The Pokémon Company is collaborating with two other studios. The first is DeNA, a Japanese company that developed Pokémon Masters EX in 2019 (iOS and Android). The second is Creatures, Inc., another Japanese company closely associated with the Pokémon license. We are particularly indebted to the Pokémon Ranger and Detective Pikachu games.
Finally, let's not forget that The Pokémon Company is not its first attempt to digitize the Pokémon TCG. Indeed, the company released Pokémon TCG Live in June 2023. It is the successor to Pokémon TCG Online. The latter was released in 2011 on the browser, before being ported to PC, Mac, iOS and Android. The principle is simple, it allows you to enjoy all the advantages of the physical card game in a digital format.

With this new app, users will be able to open two packs of cards per day for free. The finger slides horizontally across the screen, the digital deck opens and we discover randomly assigned cards. It’s a simple but addictive principle that has always worked. The desire to get all the cards generally drives you to double down on openings. In this case, this should keep the user on a regular basis. With a maximum of two packs per day, this should encourage you to restart the app regularly, if not daily.
Naturally, The Pokémon Company will play on the nostalgia card by incorporating digital versions of existing physical cards. It will continue to push this concept as new cards appear as well. The special thing here is that the maps will be interactive. Some will offer a 3D view and others, called “immersive cards,” will allow you to “dive into the card’s illustration.”
