Which Mobile Operator Should You Choose in 2024? Here's How Each Network Performs

When choosing a mobile plan, performance remains a mystery: although SFR, Free, Bouygues and Orange all sell 4G and 5G networks, their networks do not offer the same internet connection speeds. Here are the best for the first half of 2024.

You probably already know nPerf because of its speed test, which is ideal for determining the speed of your Internet connection. Thanks to the results obtained, the French company has created an impressive database. Thus, nPerf is able to accurately determine which network offers the best performance for browsing the Internet.

For the first half of 2024, its analysis summary shows that: SFR and Bouygues offer the best mobile connectivity.. But this is not much, all operators are close, except for Free. As for the latter, this poor performance will be justified by prices that are much more competitive than those of competing products.

What are the strengths and weaknesses of each operator?

The nPerf score allows you to determine the performance of each operator at a glance:

  1. Bouygues Telecom: 97,445 points
  2. SFR: 96,899 points
  3. Orange: 95,349 points
  4. Free: 84,336 points

Please note that this result is synthetic: some clients are better than others in certain categories. However, in third place in the ranking, Orange shows better download speeds (121.10 MB/s) than Bouygues (109.13). If you download a lot, it would be better anyway to switch to SFR, which offers the best speeds with an average of 121.68 MB/s.

On the other hand, Bouygues performs better in all other categories than its competitors. SFR's performance is closely followed. But this is not enough to prevent the hemorrhage of subscribers since the beginning of 2024.

Overall, performance is improving across all operators, with an average 2% increase in the score compared to 2023. However, nPerf notes that growth is slowing: this was expected with 5G deployment now well underway. We will probably have to wait for 6G to return to stronger growth.

Network coverage remains a priority when choosing your operator.

One important parameter remains missing from the nPerf analysis, whose data is taken from its own throughput tests: network coverage. These results will therefore be of greater interest to city dwellers. In the countryside, you shouldn't trust it. Coverage remains above all the priority parameter when choosing your operator. Once the network is absent, the numbers shown in the report go out the window.

Obviously, Orange still offers the best network coverage, but unfortunately at rather high prices. However, the network situation can vary greatly from place to place. So it will always be better to determine which operator works best near you.

  • Bouygues and SFR offer the best mobile internet connectivity in the first half of 2024.
  • Orange is not far behind. On the other hand, the free version shows much lower performance.
  • These results do not take into account the network coverage of each operator.
